Dashboards
Collecting data is only useful if you can see it. Dashboards show your production live and over time: is the line running, how much did we produce, how is the energy use trending. Dashboards are part of the UpBlue Management Environment — everyone with access to the organisation can view them, on any screen, from the office to a TV on the factory floor.
Building a dashboard needs no query language. You pick your tags, choose how to summarize them and pick a visual. Read how data is queried here.
The dashboard list
Open your organisation and go to the Dashboards page. Dashboards are organized in folders, for example a folder per production line or per department.
- New Dashboard creates a dashboard.
- New Folder creates a folder. Dashboards can be moved between folders.
- Per dashboard: rename, copy, move, delete and version history.
Your first dashboard
Create the dashboard
Line 1.Add a panel
Open the dashboard and click Edit, then Add panel. A panel is one chart or number on the dashboard.
In the panel editor:
- Pick your data: select a tag, for example the speed of the line. Read more about querying data.
- Pick a visual: a time-series chart, a single number (stat), a bar chart. Read more about panels.
- Give the panel a title and click apply.
Arrange
Drag panels to arrange them, drag the corners to resize. Click Save to save your work.
Publish
Click Publish to make this version the one everyone sees.
Draft and publish
A dashboard has a published version and can have a draft. Viewers always see the published version. When you edit and save, you are working on a new version — the published dashboard stays untouched until you click Publish.
This means you can safely rebuild a dashboard that the whole factory is watching, and publish it when it is ready.
A dashboard can also be marked as draft, hiding it from the normal list. Use the “Show draft dashboards” switch to see them.
Time range and refresh
At the top of every dashboard:
- Time range — the period all panels show, for example the last 24 hours or this week. Shift the range backward and forward or zoom out with the arrow buttons.
- Refresh — reload the data once, or pick an auto-refresh interval for a live dashboard on a TV screen.
The time range picker also accepts relative times like now-8h, and all times follow the timezone of the organisation.
Version history
Every save creates a version. Open Version History to see them, compare and restore. You can restore an old version as a new version, or as a completely new dashboard. Nothing is ever really lost — experiment freely.
More options
In the dashboard menu you also find:
- Export Dashboard — download the dashboard as a file, for example to share with UpBlue support.
- Copy Dashboard — duplicate it, for example as starting point for the next production line.
- Raw edit — edit the dashboard definition directly. Only needed for advanced cases.
Who can see and edit dashboards?
Viewing and editing dashboards is controlled per user with dashboard roles: a Viewer can watch, an Editor can build. Read more about roles.
