AI Assistant
The AI Assistant answers questions about your factory data, right inside UpBlue. Ask it in plain language, in your own language:
- “Which machines on Line 3 stopped today, and for how long?”
- “What was the average temperature of oven 2 last week?”
- “Add a panel with the energy use per hall to this dashboard.”
- “Why is the MQTT connection on the packing line not sending data?”
The assistant looks up the answer in your organisation itself: tags, events, dashboards, connections and alerts. It never guesses; every number it gives comes from your data.
Open the assistant
A panel opens on the right side of the screen. Type your question and press Enter to send (Shift + Enter for a new line). While the assistant is working you see each step it takes, for example “list tags” or “query tag data”. Click Stop to cancel an answer.
The button is only shown inside an organisation. The assistant always works on the organisation you have open; switching organisation starts a new conversation.
What it may do: your own permissions
The assistant works as you, with your own role in the organisation. It cannot see or change more than you can yourself.
| Your role | What the assistant can do |
|---|---|
| Viewer | Read: tags, values, events, dashboards. It tells you when a change needs an Editor. |
| Editor and higher | Also change dashboards, connections, rules, collectors, alerts and event rules. |
The assistant always asks first before it changes a connection, rule, collector, alert or event rule. It tells you exactly what will change, and only continues when you say yes. One yes covers one change: deploying a connection after saving it is asked again.
Working on a dashboard
Open a dashboard and the assistant knows which one you mean: “this dashboard” refers to it, and it uses the time range you are looking at. Ask it to add a panel, change a query or fix a chart.
Every change is saved as a new dashboard version. Nothing is lost: an earlier version can always be restored from the version history. After the change the dashboard reloads with the result.
Editing a dashboard with unsaved changes? The assistant warns you. Choose Continue to save your changes together with the assistant’s change, or Save or discard first.
Conversation history
A conversation is saved automatically after the assistant’s first answer. Click the history icon in the panel header to see your earlier conversations, newest first, and click one to continue it, also on another device.
- Click the pencil icon for a New conversation.
- Delete a conversation with the trash icon in the history, or with Delete conversation in the menu (â‹®). Deleting is permanent.
Your conversations are private: nobody else can read them, administrators included. They are kept until you delete them.
Limits
- On UpBlue AI your plan includes a number of UpBlue AI tokens per month, shared by everyone in your company; a tenant admin can add more with the UpBlue AI tokens pack, and with your own provider and key nothing is counted.
- At most 10 questions per minute per user.
- At most 40 messages per conversation. Start a new conversation when you reach the limit.
Which AI model runs the assistant
By default the assistant runs on UpBlue AI: you need no account or key of your own.
A tenant admin can choose to run the assistant on your company’s own AI account instead, with Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI. The costs are then billed by that provider directly. You need an API key: from console.anthropic.com for Anthropic, or from platform.openai.com with API billing for OpenAI. A Claude or ChatGPT subscription is not an API key.
Open My UpBlue
Click your organisation name at the top right and choose My UpBlue. Find the AI assistant card under Assistant.
Choose who runs the model
Choose UpBlue AI or Your own provider and key. For your own key, select the Provider, paste the API key and click Check key and load models.
Pick a model and save
Pick a Model, or leave it empty for the provider’s default, and click Save.
The setting applies to everyone in the tenant; users cannot pick a model in the chat. The key is stored encrypted; afterwards only its last four characters are shown. To go back, click Remove the key and use UpBlue AI.
Want to use UpBlue from your own Claude or ChatGPT instead of from the button in UpBlue? Use the MCP Server.
